Our Self-Guided trips allow you to savor one village at a time for multiple nights before moving on to another town depending on your trip length. This gives you daily mileage choices for your cycling loops and allows flexibility for each guest's needs- including non-cycling guest’s wishing to take art, cooking or language classes.
Some may choose to skip a day cycling and instead browse the local markets, relax by the pool with a book or take the car for a beach day! Prices range from $1698. - $1898. per person for a 7 day/6 night cycling trip (cost depends on dates, destination & number in your party- 2 people minimum). You may add extra days for additional fees. Contact us for specific details and trip suggestions. We also offer special child pricing.

"SELF-GUIDED" TOURS GENERAL INFORMATION

Reservations & Deposits: To Reserve space, please mail a completed Reservation Form along with your deposit of $600. per person, per Tour. The balance is due 90 days prior to your trip departure date. An additional $500. "Security Deposit" per group reservation will also be due with your final payment. This is fully refundable 60 days after your trip ends and is used as a deductible in the event of non-payment of possible optional incidentals (meals, drinks, telephone calls at the hotels, Etc.) and to enforce compliment with Breaking Away’s "Self-Guided Tour Rules" against sharing hotel rooms, trip itineraries, race viewing information and cycling routes with non-registered friends or relatives during your trip. All itineraries are subject to change in order to follow this exclusive cycling event.

Rates: All trip costs are per person in a shared double room. If you have an odd number of guests in your group you may request a single room option for an additional fee (very limited space). If you want to reserve a triple room (space limited) there is no additional charge as the room cost savings are offset by a more expensive, larger vehicle needed for the 3rd or 5th guest. Children age 6 or under in a shared room are free as long as a larger vehicle is not needed. Breaking Away’s "Self-Guided" itineraries and cycling routes are produced for the sole use of confirmed clients only and use by others (including confirmed guest’s friends or relatives) is prohibited.

Cancellation Policy: If you must cancel your trip, your deposit will be returned less a 50% cancellation fee if we are notified up to 90 days before your trip departure date and there is no refund of the deposit if we are notified less than 90 days before trip departure date. If you cancel once the final payment has been made (due 90 days before trip departure date) there is a full refund minus the deposit if we can fill your space. Trip cancellation insurance is available and strongly
suggested as we make no exceptions with our refund policy. This optional policy refunds your Tour costs in full should you be unable to travel due to an illness or family emergency.

Accommodations & Meals: We provide 3 & 4 star hotels- all with private bathroom. Select dinners and daily breakfasts are included. Additional airport hotel nights are available @ $189. per double room (including Breakfast)

Custom Itinerary/Additional Days: You may arrive earlier or depart later than our "Basic Tour Dates" if you wish to add your own custom itinerary. We can book additional Geneva or Paris hotel nights as well as design a special custom pre or post trip itinerary. Perhaps you want to visit Provence and ride Mt. Ventoux or sightsee the Burgundy wine region.

Pre-Trip Planning: All guests must have a valid passport. Please apply immediately if you do not have one or if your current passport will be expiring before your return to the USA. We suggest arriving one day early to ease jet lag. A complete "Pre-Trip" planning packet will be provided to you once you are confirmed with receipt of your deposit.

Rental Vehicle/Driving Info: Self-Guided tours participants receive an French or Italian Rental agency vehicle from Hertz, Avis, etc. Breaking Away Tours acts as an agent in reserving the vehicle and the size is dependant upon the number of guests in each reservation. Rental policies include basic vehicle insurance and each registered driver should check with their own personal insurance policies to make sure they have proper coverage with relation to additional liability and collision. Specific additional insurance is available through the rental agency as well as adding additional drivers for an additional cost paid in person at time of rental. As an option and for an additional fee you may also reserve a brand new Renault or Peugeot vehicle. This is a "Short term lease" program and the registered driver will be asked to sign a contract with the vehicle provider and a promissory note for the value of your vehicle to assure that you return the vehicle on the agreed upon date of return. Pricing includes up to 17 days use of your vehicle- additional days cost approx. $25-$50. per day depending upon the type of vehicle (station wagon, minivan or 9 passenger minibus).

Release of Liability: There are inherent risks involved with any type of travel and Breaking Away Bicycle Tours, Inc. is not liable for any part of this travel package. All clients will be provided a "Release of Liability" waiver in their confirmation package that must be agreed upon/signed. Breaking Away Bicycle Tours, Inc. is acting as an agent in the reservations of your vehicle & hotels. Our driving and cycling routes are suggestions only.
